Disclaimer, this is probably off-topic, but it reminded me of it, so I figured i’d share.

:Cat: (npub1dkf…z4wz) Tsuki 🌙 (npub1qn0…l9h8) Reminds me of this one place which is around. A family member had heard about it. The guy who ran it really sold it as a way for disabled people to do meaningful work and have the potential to make upto or above minimum wage!. My mom get it in her head it’d be a good idea if I went, so I did go once.

You had to sign a contract basically saying you were a volunteer with the potential to become an employee to make upto or above minimum wage! something like that.

It was a kinda legal slave labor thing. Where they exploit disabled people by giving them hope for friends and job opportunities. But what is actually was, was menial tasks that have yet to be machine automated yet.

When I was there the project they were working on was literally just putting 50 of these metal like nuts into a companies packaging.

The guy was a complete jerk with his head up his ass. He lived in this big property and made a shit ton of money.

The only “Job Opportunities” he’d give people were those with very high-functioning autism. I guess he helped like 2 people get a job at Walmart.

But I met one of the people, and I can assure you he could’ve gotten the job himself, just has some very mild issues communicating. You’d have no idea he’d had anything wrong with him if you were just asking the typical things a customer would ask a Walmart employee.
