I'm interested in your thoughts from an ethics point of view.
You buy a laptop (or indeed any device with storage) second hand.
Do you install a new OS / wipe the drive before you do anything else?
Do you see if you can log in / recover data?
Does it depend on the age / novelty of the machine?
Normally I wipe it if I won't be using it immediately, else I install a new OS. I don't attempt to access someone else's data.
But with my 30 year old ThinkPad, I am oddly tempted...
