Hey nostr! I’m back 😎 This weekend I started working on some taxes, not fun… listened to some podcast episodes (mostly JRE) and skimmed over various articles. Here are some of the things I read in case you find them interesting:

New images reveal exocomets around 74 nearby stars:

Systemic existenical risks from incremental ai development. (I personally think it’s a bit of a doomer attitude and I don’t agree with everything. The author is shortsighted and uninformed in many cases, but does bring up some good points):

Newfound Asteroid may hit earth in 2032.
The TLDR on that is it’s a 1.6% risk at the moment, but it seems to be going up every time they measure again. We won’t know for sure until 2029 next time it comes around. The impact will be that of a 10-megaton bomb - enough to wipe everything out in a 15km radius, and possibly wider. Good chance it will miss, but not ruled out that it will entirely. Our best mitigation strategy is to launch a counteroffensive mission soon, or evacuate the impact area. So far trajectory was calculated between Pacific ocean and northern parts of South America.

This is bad news for everyone, including US. In case you are not aware, there are no winners in trade wars and Tariffs only hurt US consumers.

Solvation entropy engineering of thermogalvanic electrolyes for efficient electrochemical refgrigiration (a followup study): https://www.cell.com/joule/fulltext/S2542-4351(25)00003-0%E2%80%A8%E2%80%A8Archivist work to identify and save thousands of datasets disappearing from data.gov. It seems the Trump regime is shutting down many websites and wiping databases. Very concerning, no matter your desired outcome.

Smart fabric heats up under the sun: https://uwaterloo.ca/news/media/smart-fabric-heats-under-sun%E2%80%A8%E2%80%A8CDC data are disappearing (more concerning news): https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2025/01/cdc-dei-scientific-data/681531/%E2%80%A8%E2%80%A8This is a fun one: https://lumon-industries.com/%E2%80%A8%E2%80%A8Researchers just discoevered an entirely new class of life living inside humans: https://bgr.com/science/researchers-just-discovered-an-entirely-new-class-of-life-living-inside-humans/%E2%80%A8%E2%80%A8Webside for USAID appears to be offline: https://www.reuters.com/world/us/website-usaid-appears-be-offline-2025-02-01/%E2%80%A8%E2%80%A8It seems DODGE is operating unconstitutionally atm. I hear Elon has not been confirmed into his position so technically he is acting unlawfully if he’s shutting down websites, and or wiping data. While I mainly support taking drastic action to cut down on government waste, this doesn’t feel like the right way to go about dealing with data.

Saw some other news about new bill introduced to ban usage of Deepseek. OpenAI lobbying to pay off? We’ll see.

I also spilled milk on my phone and keyboard… but luckily both are fine.

How have you been?
