Ukrainians refer to Ukraine just as Ukraine. This thing of calling it "the Ukraine" is a Russian narrative where they try to spin it as Ukraine just being a region, a borderland of Russia (Ukraine means borderland) rather than as a country in its own right.
The nuance only works in languages that have definite articles though, which doesn't include Russian itself.
