If they realize someday, en masse, that they need to leave, I'm sure they'll simply head to another centralized service. It won't be operated by someone as vile as Musk.

But it will be yet another example of journalists' endless willingness to entrust tech barons with their future -- which by now they should know is a dangerous strategy.

They'd be vastly better off on Mastodon. It wouldn't be all that hard to make the move. And the rewards would be immense.
