No. It's not because I am full of ideas (my crap ideas come like pulling teeth), not because I want to be rich & famous (gag), not because I think I will do some good or connect with anyone (the likelihood of finding an audience is infinitesimal), or because I'm in love with writing or stories--
Love of stories--ha. The thought hurts anymore. That's weaponized against us plebes, too.
Lost all that sweetness & light approach when I saw it exploited in universities.
The literature/MFA mill to teach comp classes to undergrads for cheap.
"Oh, aren't you lucky to do what you love? To study stories?" said entitled tenured professors, one Ivy League graduate after another, whilst we state-school rubes were grinding through another stack of essays for pennies on the hour.
No. I've nothing uplifting to offer on this question.
I write because I am in conflict with the prevailing order & this is the cheapest, safest way I can fight back, living here in the middle of nowhere, on the front line against the the fascists who want me & my friends & other marginalized people dead.
My stories aren't a "oh how nice," they're a "fuck you, I bite." I write teeth.
