They do! Beyond the obvious security implications, they let me force a music app or a gallery app to not include files outside of what I want to view or listen to on that particular app.
I sync a lot of stuff to my phone with Syncthing, and I don't like apps that include stray files from /storage/emulated/0/Documents, etc.
I just wish GOS would include the dedicated wifi button hack. I can't stand that useless "Internet" toggle that Google has foisted on everyone.
