I would add to this that "growth" is an euphemism, a fake effect. There is only replacement. E.g. if you want Burger King to exponentially grow in the market, this inevitably means McDonald's exponentially shrinking. Same for natural resources.
All of the interesting effects of "growth" happen in the decreasing realm, e.g. how social networking replaced real-life human interactions.
