I don't know if it's because I was a teenager when I first saw it or because it was brilliant storytelling, but I had to see Cowboy Bebop in full like three times (airling one ep at a time on TV mind you) before I figured out that Spike's whole backstory could be summed up as "guy runs away from the mafia, 3yrs later it catches up to him" and I still can't get over how brilliant the show is to just... never directly say that. And then the American remake is like lol. lmao
