You've made some excellent points. I am from the Bible Belt and what we see a lot of around here is people trying to make it more palatable by incorporating folklore, superstition, and some granny magic into it. Most of us here still remember our grandparents and even parents practicing folk magic...stopping blood by reciting Bible verses, orphans blowing thrush out of people, etc.
With the younger generation, I'm seeing a lot more manifesting with crystals and stones and a lot less spellwork. For me, a big part of the separation between New Age and witchcraft was the practice of spellwork.
