Yes, the man never had a virus. If you were ill at the time, you might have gotten an HIV test. If it was negative you most likely got well again. If it was positive you were put on the drug AZT (to slow down the progression to full blown AIDS) which eventually destroyed your immune system just like the gays in the 70s.
