Mayo Ma'am on Nostr: I have put off writing about this because of other battles I’m fighting but ...

I have put off writing about this because of other battles I’m fighting but Labour’s Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill should concern anyone who values freedom of speech, freedom of education or parental rights.

Here are some thoughts (I may add extra bits later because my children will be awake soon and today we are studying the Tudors!)

Free breakfast clubs will become the norm meaning children will spend even less time with their families and more time under the influence of teachers and peers. Handing children over to nursery at 18 months already is not working, you have a generation of children with severe behaviour issues and a generation of parents who believe it is not their responsibility to feed their children, if your wages are low you qualify for universal credit. You can feed your children.

I and all other home educators will be placed onto a sex-offender style register for having “children out of school”. Even though my academic attainment is far superior to the average primary school teacher, even though my children have been educated since before compulsory school age and even though my children are meeting targets above their age expectations. I should probably care more about this than I do but to me this seemed inevitable because several governments have admitted because of immigration and generally bad book keeping they have no idea who is or isn’t in this country . We have always been ‘known’ to the local educational authority because a locum paediatrician who could barely speak English reported my then 3 year old for not being in school! Oh what laughs we had! (I actually received a huge apology from the NHS and the truancy service!) .

Labour wanted this register brought in long before the death of Sara Sherif. But I think it’s absolutely shameless to blame home educators for the death of a girl , from a culture where girls are undervalued, who was known to social services before her birth because of her abusive violent father, then placed with the abusive violent father and ultimately killed by her abusive violent father during school holidays when it would have made absolutely zero difference if she was registered to a school or not. Once a child is deregistered from a school it is the local authority’s job to make enquiries about that child.

I believe maths and English should be studied by everyone. But the suggestion that home educated children may have to follow the national curriculum is frankly ridiculous. The National Curriculum operates by throwing many subjects at children and hoping something sticks , I shouldn’t have to tell you that of late a lot of what they are throwing at children is sticking like shit. Gender and black supremacy seem to be popular subjects. Additionally many parents home educate because their children do not cope with methods used in school phonics is let’s face it a bit crap, and leads to secondary school children that think absolutely nothing is wrong with writing foneticlee. Some children are visual learners, some children work best with their hands, some children are never going to be brain surgeons, why on earth should they have to learn about every national curriculum subject? Why not focus on their strengths .

There is a huge home community here, a friend runs probably the biggest group locally and I would say the vast majority of families are out and about being seen in public on a day to day basis. They attend multiple classes and groups every day , obviously dentist, optician, gp appointments, shopping etc etc too. The ones who aren’t “seen” as often ironically are the ones that take a more academic approach to education and are in various study groups. This idea that my children should need checking up on for not looking like they’re learning whilst on the bus is abhorrent. The vast majority of child murder happens to children before they are compulsory school age.

I think society is already very suspicious of parents who want to spend time with their children. How on earth is that healthy?

Would you be happy for your home to be inspected right now? I mean the government are only checking to see how you are looking after your children / pets / elderly relatives / partners…
