We all know the scene where the sun vaporizes the count. The thing I like here, is it's a bit more restrained. The sun isn't dissolving him instantly like a laser beam. It's the dawn itself. Light and life. He is incompatible with it and can no longer exist out in the open in its sphere.
Vampires aren't complex creatures here. They're like a plague and want to blot out all life. I don't think the count is particularly romanticized here, although maybe some people would. (perverts)
