personally I seen both men and women being shitty and some justify their violence whether for one's gains or to let their frustrations our and although the woman is favoured more by societal norms the fact does remain that such behaviours like violence and the actions leading to it are the main core problems

the gender bias created by it surely is problematic and there's no denying it but it is not the main primary reason for the violence, it just happens to be a factor which people consider while dealing with the situations which creates abuse and the reactions from being abused and vice versa
