Soooo a while ago when I was getting into guilty gear because of strive, I experienced something interesting about baiken, gender and sexual orientation.
I remember seeing her design a long long time ago not knowing where she was from. I was still attracted to women then, so i thought “damn she’s so hot”
When I got into strive I was like “ohhh so THAT’S where she was from” but by the time this happened, I was already on T for a while and was pretty homosexual. So I just thought “she’s cool” and “WOW her boobs are boobin” it was satisfying to see them bounce but I wasn’t into her.
I watched a lore video about baiken. It revealed a quote from her that was something along the lines of “A woman? I gave that up long ago” Hearing that my mind went crazy. I entertained the idea that ‘she’ actually identified as a man, and my attraction activated like a sleeper agent. I looked at him again as a man and I was fucking thrilled, lemme tell you those titties bouncing suddenly started driving me bananas. I loved the idea of him being a guy with these boobs so much.
But… thinking about the quote more, I realize when she said “gave up being a woman” she meant “I gave up having the normal life as a woman, because of my goal of revenge”… it didn’t mean she was saying she wasn’t actually a woman. I conceded… I felt my attraction disappear like waking up from a dream. It’s not a total loss or anything, I still think she’s awesome.
The reason I’m telling this story is because I found it fascinating that with just a small shift in perspective regarding the gender of a character, my attraction to them changed wildly. I think identifying differently changes how I interpret their appearance a lot, even when they look no different. Baiken is already a bit masculine anyway, so it was no problem flipping like a switch, but even if she wasn’t I think it would still work.
If you are ever worried that your identity doesn’t match your appearance, and that people wouldn’t be attracted to you according to your identity, there are people out there who will. There will be people who will learn what your gender is and see you as you are. Now here are Baiken’s boobs ❤️
