I battled a bit with the goldenrod, not removing it entirely, but by 2021 the patch was mostly woody tree saplings seeded from nearby hackberry and cedar elm. It looked like an abandoned farm field.
The only flowers left were the spring flush of spiderwort, and a few mealy sage hanging around the edges where I’d pulled out the goldenrod.
