today as i was doing my #pimsleur #portuguese lessons, i realised that there is an abstract, multi-hop link between the latinic "QUE" and the common construction in slavic languges "KO/KA/KI" which is like mac or o' in the scottish and irish idiom, or "son" or "sen" in the various nordics

there's a pattern between the east/west/north/south of european languages that means that once you know two from opposite sides you find every language in between isn't hard to figure out

if there was an interesting study to be done with AI machine learning and semantic compression systems, it would be discovering the web of links between the languages... i know some of them are weaker due to imperial eras but for the most part, there is a continuum that continues to exist and links them all

it was a real shock to me as i started learning portuguese how many radicals and stems were shared or similar between bulgarian and portuguese, the grammatical connections are there too, once you get further in

i should be managing usable portuguese in a couple of months... i'm now doing my lessons on the trot on my morning walk which is doing so much a better job at getting my brain working
