Hall of Fame basketball player Dikembe Mutombo has died at age 58 after a battle with brain cancer. At 7-feet-2, Mutombo was the best shot blocker of his generation and won four Defensive Player of the Year awards. He came to the United States from the Democratic Republic of the Congo with the goal of becoming a doctor when a college basketball coach implored him to join the team. His objective to help others never wavered, however, and he was instrumental in the construction of the DRC’s first modern hospital.
