If one wants to see it, load something like Fiddler Classic. Granted I'm on a windows development machine but I get MS calls in seconds even when I have outlook, visual studio, and ms teams shutdown. It's like ET, it wants to phone home constantly. That said if you throw up something like Adguard home, pi-hole etc you will also see your phone calling home for tracking and analytics on practically everything as well.
