I think the good news is that you are fostering a place they want to be. But if it is too close to be mutually beneficial... I'm in a different environment and the closest I have would be my reserve leaf piles. If they start moving in, I have to stir it so they see it is not a good place for their eggs. Repeat over time. Maybe that's possible for the sand?
