Also yeah, even if clients don't let you log in with your npub, people who want to can still do it using their own tools because the information is out there.

Logging in with your npub is not actually logging in, it's telling the client what data you want to focus on looking at out of all of the data available on nostr.

As you said: most notes and DM senders are unencrypted. So even if most clients wouldn't support this, a dedicated person could build their own client to get that info. So why not just let them?
