Under today's capitalism, either you're rich enough to afford eating for cheap, or you're too poor to not be fined for your poverty.

The fact anyone would defend such a system can be, from a rational standpoint, seem mind-boggling, and tells me either of three things about those who does: they're politically uneducated to alarming levels (which, alas, is true for many), privileged enough to not realise the unfairness, or privileged enough *and* educated enough to know that this system benefits them in nearly every sense, particularly material.

All of these categories can be swayed - even a huge cappie part of the primo-bourgeoisie; but it'll be an uphill battle. And that's why even such a thing as 'simply' proselytising leftie values is so, so much more effective as a group.
