Conceptually the idea of a place to find software that is being edited, with a series of versions and records/tracking of the updates is not hard to understand... but get any normal user – unfamiliar with github, who has basic technical literacy – and tell them to go to github and install a certain piece of software and I'd bet you 99% would click 20+ times, start over, constantly hitting the back button, and finally resort to googling "how to use github" before they completed the task.
I think github suffers from a very serious case of "developer disconnectitis." After being familiar with an absurd tool that is widely used and having it integrated into *how* people think about the problem, they completely forget how to see it like a normal, sane person.🤣
