Honestly I don't know, few years back he just played WoW in his own bubble and only blew up few years back as a commentator.
Some gaming journalist people that I used to follow on YouTube now see him as some kind of a savior from wokeism in gaming and politics, so maybe that's where some of the interest comes from. Something similar like the Trump herd.
