I’ve always been a strong supporter of online privacy.

But I also strongly agree with this statement in the article:

We’re not far from a future where, if things remain unchecked, we’re going to be essentially unable to tell apart interactions that we have online with other humans or some kind of bots. Something has to be done

I think that, with zero-knowledge proof techniques getting more mature, we are getting closer to a situation where you can prove that you’re a human, without necessarily sharing who you are, without sharing any unique ID attached to you as a person, and without revealing anything about you to the 3rd-party.

Like all zero-knowledge proofs, it’s probably not going to reach 100% deterministic conclusions. But, if the proof is repeated enough times and structured in clever ways, it can be statistically significant enough.

Once solved the “how to prove you’re human?” problem, we have however to deal with the “who emits the ‘proof of humanhood’ tokens, and can they also revoke them?”
