They had a super onerous security and compliance and packaging process around any new "application", even in-house developed ones that could take 6+ months to complete. Well, I needed to extend the functionality of one of my applications, but due to this whole process, it would be a nightmare if I did it as an actual executable. So instead, I built the whole thing into an excel spreadsheet, macros, a shared drive, and a few new views in the application database. Because that still fell under the category of "just a spreadsheet" rather than "an application". It made me feel a little dirty, but got my project 6 months faster than it would have been otherwise.
