The example of South-Africa is complicated, because it freed itself from colonialism early in the twentieth century, but the armed resistance then consisted in part of (Dutch-ethnic) white supremacists. The liberation from apartheid was for a large part a liberation from their power.

But this is something I'm trying to understand better. Historical parallels are useful but always imperfect.
