I don't want "smart" household appliances with their custom app, I want simple devices that are hackable with plain old timer switches, motion detectors or, heck, even a zigbee plug.

Trouble is.. nowadays everything comes with these pesky touch buttons and a microcontroller that doesn't remember its state after a power loss.
So there's no way to hack this while not losing warranty or strapping a sausage on a servo to the device in question.
