Great, but doesn't my point stand? that social media is there to inspire the illusion of global discovery or at least let it happen?
You just said that not having to join groups is a great UX win... which means you think telling users "global is a lie you have to join the relay/room you are interested in" would be less exciting.. even though it is conceptually more honest than the social media description.
