I solemnly swear to deal with The Tomatoes tomorrow morning, I even set a phone reminder 😂
Really loving the flat canvas basket I made for raspberries. I just washed it! It’s washable! (I feel like this is the non-clothing version of “it has pockets!” energy.) I just pop it straight in the freezer and the next day I decant the berries into a bag in a storage container. I think next year I may hit that goal of “grow enough for us for the whole year” for raspberries!
I don’t process the fruit in any way other than freezing. I’ve got allergies to wheat and dairy (among so many other things), so my go to safe-food autistic breakfast is a fruit smoothie, made with macadamia milk and some olive oil to give it fat calories. When we lived in California, I’d buy flats of berries from the Watsonville farm workers who came up to set up roadside fruit stands. They were phenomenal, and I hope my own strawberries rival them one day. The only thing better than a fresh-frozen strawberry-peach smoothie is one that’s got six raspberries in the mix too.
