Up early to make the apple pie. Will do the pecan maple later with the youngest. Spouse made the pumpkins from mother in laws recipe. I’ll do the dressing from my mother’s recipe later. Both mothers have passed on now. Their recipes and the memories of sharing this holiday tie us together as we bind our kids to the pattern too, in a new way.

We live far from the families we were born to, and that is left. In this place, we’ve created new bonds.
