This (pic #1) is Sony Mavica MVC-FD73: a 0.3 megapixel photo camera that saves your snaps to a 3.5" floppy disk.

This wasn't some early proof-of-concept. It was selling like hot cakes in 1999. Today, you can still find these cameras for about $10.

Around 2010, cheap digital sensors surpassed the capabilities of photographic film. But consumers transitioned to digital *long before that* - and they did so while the tech absolutely sucked.

Pic #2: Mavica (bottom) next to a modern camera (top).

Even in perfect lighting conditions, the photos were a smudgy, overcompressed mess (pic #3). They didn't hold a candle to the prints (or scans) you could get from film.

Technologies often win on merit, but the pros are habitually wrong about what the merit might be.
