oh I realised one thing more. In my part of the fediverse, mastodon, people get very uptight about alt text. I'll get excommunicated, but it seems a bit OTT to me. If you are sharing info with an image, like an event poster, then of course you should make that info accessible to blind users. It is a bit different if what you are sharing is an image, it seems to me. Still loads of people won't share images without alt text and some of the photographers on here have turned the alt text into an art form. They use it to explain to us ignoramuses what we are seeing. It is sort of art criticism.
