A knee-jerk reaction of “BUT THIS MAN WORKED FOR NINE” really helps nobody. Do we want experienced media people working at the ABC? Because if we do, and I think we do, then we inevitably have to understand that either those experienced people come from within the ABC, with the baggage and institutionalised thinking that means, or the people come from another media company, which in this country means they’ve worked for Nine, Seven or Murdoch.
