Basically yeah. Also economic pressures. In the west women are free to choose careers that doesn't have them stuck in a basement with nerds who smell like feet and tell terrible Unix jokes.

That's an interesting consequence of the more sex liberated western countries: women willingly avoid the more stereotypically male / nerdy careers, even at the expense of a lower salary. That's a privilege western women have.
