A word about seam allowances, gleaned from my formal education and assorted Victorian sewing manuals, in European:
A lot of patterns you buy have them on there, but in case you're drafting or adjusting patterns yourself...
1cm is the allowance you use if you know the size and shape is absolutely correct. 1.5cm is the one you use if you are not quite sure, or want to have space to ease out years later. 2cm is what you'll use for body seams you may want to let out later, but only if they're not very curved, then you'll use 1.5cm for those ones too. 1cm for collar and neck seam, it needs to be narrow enough to give to the curved shapes and not be bulky, and usually top-stitching will keep it in place, it's not a high stress seam. 7mm for the collar piece outer edges, it's easier to sew and doesn't warp as much as 5mm, and won't need to be trimmed down as much to reduce bulk as 1cm.
