It's been sold in the same way that shutting down the institutions were sold
>"mental wards are bad so we'll shut them down and replace them with community care"
>shuts down wards
>community care never materializes so now all the crazies are just homeless drug addicts
They're trying to phase out internal combustion engines while betting on technology magically improving fast enough to make EVs a viable replacement, and when reality fails to deliver they pathologize anyone who complains (you just have range anxiety! you're just repeating FUD! you're just racist)
There's so many engineering teething issues to overcome that just gets ignored (battery tech, public charging infrastructure, home charging infrastructure, standardization, mechanics who know what they're doing, spare parts distribution), any one of these problems would be a major hurdle that needs to be tackled one at a time (which admittedly is what tesla used to do) but they decided to create a government mandated speedrun of them all at once, while also letting the manufacturers shove in the most shitty broken software possible.
They could've sold well if they weren't trying to rush to meet some 2030 ideological deadline, or if they focused on hybrids first while the charging infrastructure was built out so that you could always fall back on gas stations, or if they were just honest about the range being shit and the product being niche, or if they never tried to phase out ICE cars which turned it into a cultural issue.
So many bad engineering decisions made in the name of faggot ideology.
