Squirrel was a slang term for a spastic Freshman running around in all directions like a crazy person or the way sqirrels act. I don't know if $cientology got their term from that. A squirrel is someone who interbolates the cult by altering the "tech" and/or giving it away for free. It might have come from the slang.
