Branding cattle was the technology used by people to show ownership of livestock. As some people proceeded to exercise control over others , the ruling class invented other ways to control "their" people. Border checkpoints were used, land titles, social security #s , tattoos on jews, skin color, identity cards, and many others.
All of these identity trackers were centralized, top down methods designed for control of a few over the many. People were stuck in this system of identity slavery because there was no alternnative technology to prove individual soveriegn identity without a "trusted" centralized 3rd party.
Now, for the first time in history, a human can prove individual identity without giving up control over their credentials. States will no longer be able to hold an "identity" of a person hostage.
Blockchain technology, using bitcoin type protocol will change the face of human freedom, and hence change the world to a much more free place.
