quoting note1ff4…cvupWe're finally getting some (slightly) below-freezing temperatures here. I thought it would be interesting to see what happens to a finished compost pile that's left to sit instead of turning it into a storage bin.
Blue is the air temperature and brown is the temperature inside the middle of the compost pile. The life in the pile is maintaining the temperature above ambient, but ambient temperature changes do eventually affect it over time. The Soil Food Web School recommends that compost mature like this for at least 6 months, so I'm going to keep monitoring through winter and into spring.
Also nice to see that the battery has held out for over 5 weeks so far. I was replacing it every 2-3 weeks to avoid having any gaps in data.
