Pragmatic thinking really is the worst kind of preemptive concession, and it opens the doors to every single nightmare argument. The same goes for dual meaning phrasing that gives way to rightist thinking, whether by normalising discrimination as a natural state or promoting nationalist thinking as a good reason to do something.
I don’t mind calling it ideological purity though, pragmatic thinking is what gets us to arguments about basic rights that shouldn’t even be argued, and that is not the kind of world I want to work towards.
