I've gone off the idea of buying the Tanchjim Bunny, which means it's time to summarise my IEMs of this year.
I bought the following earphones:
- KZ Vader / CCA Trio
- KBear KB02
- Simgot EW300
- Moondrop May
- Truthear Gate
- Kefine Klean
- NiceHCK EB2S Pro (earbud)
- KZ ZSN Pro 2
- Artti R3
- Tanchjim Tanya
Easily, the one that most surprised me is the Vader/Trio. Three 8mm speakers in each ear make for a large soundstage, an impression of music playing in a hall rather than a room. I feel this is the best set I've heard for under US$15 because of its value proposition. KZ release a new Pokemon almost every month but this was one worth getting.
Of those listed, I'd say the Klean is the best choice for someone who doesn't care about IEMs. For under US$50, it does nothing wrong but doesn't particularly stand out. They're comfortable to wear and they sound good, all they need to be. The May's okay as well, if you like the idea of using its DSP cable on other IEMs or don't like how your computer's audio card presents sound. My HP ProBook makes all earphones sound overly warm and bloated, for example.
My personal preference leans towards the EW300. I dismissed these before my ears had a chance to get used to them, but feel I could keep these and sell everything else. They are as bright as I'd want them to be and no more, and I have the choice of more bass should I wish to change nozzle filters.
As previously stated a few times, I've lost my interest in this hobby. I would need to spend more than I can afford or am comfortable with losing, to find sets that offer better performance than what I already have. The hard part is selling superfluous audio gear as I'd need to put effort in marketing it to potential buyers.
Not quite a postmortem of the hobby but should provide a look in at where this year's ventures have led me.
