Countless people with money have passed on the chance to monetize Linux for the consumer market. Or they didn't pass, and just failed. If it was really as simple and mature as its champions maintain, it would have been better productized by someone years ago. Lots of things are "better" mousetraps. That doesn't automatically cause them to become ubiquitous tools.
