Yeah but you aren’t gonna be launching lots of stuff into orbit on a Saturn V. Too expensive and not reusable. That’s why they don’t make them anymore.
Given the prior record of spacex I am confident they can at least make this thing reach orbit. If they actually succeed in making the giant chrome dildo fully reusable it’s gonna be a pretty big deal. We’d be able to put up a lot more stuff into space for a lot less, and it would make some low scale orbital manufacturing processes become viable. Apparently there is a type of fiber optic cable that can only be made in zero G that greatly outperforms anything that can be made on Earth. IIRC they did some experiments on a small scale in space and on the vomit comet aircraft already.
Personally, I’d like to see this project succeed, and hopefully make that POS SLS/Artemis project redundant so they cancel it. Then they can rename the Starship/Super Heavy to Starship Launch System, or SLS. I’d love nothing more than to see the fedgov welfare pigs in Huntsville AL seethe bitterly as their contracts dry up. No way should a rocket like the SLS, AKA Shuttle’s Leftover Shit, cost 4 Billion per launch. Even if spacex fails at reusability they should have no problem beating a price that high.
