To me, a sign that someone is really educated (and this can be with or without a degree) is when a person recognizes that she/he always has so muchg more to learn! As an educator, I took it as a basic, ongoing task to recognize that I really knew all too little about any subject I taught, and that I had to keep educating myself, including by listening to and learning from my students. This just seems so basic to me that I can't stop doing this in my "retirement"!
