Given all those listed, you'd think the sources for tension are endless, but I've put down books where I discovered that wasn't true, where I felt trapped in a room with the most boring person I'd ever met.

One of the greatest sources, now that I think about it, are secrets. Those invade everything because the tension is always there. Miscommunication is another, where characters talk past one another, sometimes not realizing, but the reader does.
