I love to have all important and also non open-source app working on my system but also able to deal with my daily stuff in open-source. Using macports or home-brew is just awesome to get everything running. People can complain that I'm into open source, develop and work for open source projects and live the buildinpublic dream but still use a macOS - but in addition to an iPhone and Apple Watch this eco system is unbeatable. I can fully understand that not everyone needs this, but it absolutely fulfils my needs. I'm always playing around with other solutions but... yeah.
