While we're being bombarded with reports about drugs deaths in Scotland today, that are still too high, bear in mind that this is a dreadful UK-wide problem and Scotland, although worst hit, isn't unique. Drugs deaths are at record levels in England and Wales.

For context, where Scotland has been able to act independently, on tobacco, minimum unit pricing for alcohol and knife crime, there's been tangible significant progress in reducing the harms of all three.
