The UK's tax law is really dumb, and without fixing it, tax increases are super high risk low reward. Last I checked, with capital gains you can literally just leave the UK and move to a tax haven, sell your assets, wait 5 years, then move back and your tax liability is now zero.
Idk if there's even any law stopping you from selling the assets then immediately buying them back, resetting their cost basis and zeroing out all your on paper gains as far as the UK is concerned.
