We have different systems to represent the concept of Mathematics e.g binary 1s and 0s, decimals 0-9, Arabic, Chinese, Roman Numerals etc.
Because mathematics is universal, the concept behind the idea of a number is the same but that idea is represented differently in each system. For example a 1 in Babylonian is ‘I’ , in Chinese it’s ‘yī’ or Greek is α (alpha). All representing the same idea.
So how do we define the idea of the number in the universe and find use for its meaning within a system. The answer lies in its relationship to how it interacts with other numbers in the system. This is how the idea of a number derives meaning.
